Bringing the colour and rhythm of Galičnik motifs back to life.
Elena learned to weave from her grandmother, in an age when a loom still stood in nearly every house of the Mijak region. When those looms began to disappear, she set out through the villages to record the motifs before they were lost.
Her collection now holds over two hundred documented patterns. Some are being woven again — a few for the first time in seventy years.
„I do not invent the pattern. I remember it.“
She works only with wool from Bistra sheep, hand-spun and dyed with plant dyes: madder, walnut husk, weld. A larger piece takes between six weeks and three months on the loom.
The geometry of Mijak patterns is not ornament — each row once carried meaning, from marital status to home village. Elena weaves them with that knowledge, not as decoration.
